Family has white spots on skin?

My younger brother has white spots all over his chest and arms, I have them on my thighs and now my two kids 3 yrs old and 9 mths old both have a few on their chest. I thught it may be a skin fungus but apparently it's hereditary. Dose anyone know what this may be? Thanks.
