Much to do at Beruwela Sri Lanka ?

I am torn between Taj Exoctica in Betonta and Eden Resort in Beruwela Sri Lanka. Is there much to do outside the resorts ? places to walk to, markets, shopping etc ? I am taking 2 infants under 2, any advice greatly apprfeciated.
