Are there plants I can use in my garden that cats don't like?

I want to plant some flowers in pots on my patio. Last year I did this, but within weeks all my flowers – mostly impatiens – were crushed beyond rescue by neighbors' cats who liked sleeping in the planters. Are there plants I can use that cats do not like? Or maybe something I can do to deter them from sleeping on my flowers or using the planters as litter boxes?
