Is center of m kinetic energy always conserved in a collision(both elastic and inelastic)?

The Kinetic and Potential energy both change as the collision progresses, but the total mechanical energy of the system will be conserved, meaning that ME=K+U, which is also saying that ME=1/2m(v^2)+mg(h)
